
All municipalities in the region gave their official support to Burgas’ bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2032. The 13 municipalities in the Burgas region and the Burgas 2032 Foundation signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at a ceremony at the Sea Casino Cultural Center. Regional Governor Vladimir Krumov also attended the event.
The mayors of the region united around the Burgas 2032 initiative as a common mission and strategic investment in the future of the region. The signing of the memorandum was approved by all municipal councils in the Burgas region. It is envisaged that Burgas’s candidacy will include joint regional projects that showcase the traditions and creative potential of the region. Its successful implementation will lead to increased international visibility for the region and the development of infrastructure and tourism.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in support of Burgas’ candidacy for European Capital of Culture marks the start of the Burgas 2032 campaign, after the Ministry of Culture announced the start of the competition for the title a few weeks ago. The Ministry of Culture published the official invitation to Bulgarian cities to submit their applications for European Capital of Culture. According to the European Union’s calendar, the title of European Capital of Culture for 2032 will be awarded to one city in Bulgaria and one city in Denmark. The deadline for Bulgarian cities to submit their applications is January 19, 2027.
