FOR EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE

The municipalities in the Burgas region have supported the city’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2032. At a working meeting today, mayors and municipal representatives united around the Burgas 2032 initiative as a strategic investment in the future and confirmed the active involvement of the entire region in the preparation of the candidacy.
At the invitation of Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas Municipality, the Mayor of Aytos Municipality, Mr. Vasil Edrev, the Mayor of Malko Tarnovo Municipality, Mr. Ilian Yanchev, the mayor of Nessebar Municipality, Mr. Nikolay Dimitrov, the mayor of Pomorie Municipality, Mr. Ivan Alexiev, the mayor of Primorsko Municipality, Mr. Ivan Gaykov, the mayor of Sozopol Municipality, Mr. Tihomir Yanakiev, the mayor of Sredets Municipality, Eng. Ivan Kichev, the mayor of Sungurlare Municipality, Eng. Dimitar Gavazov, Mayor of Tsarevo Municipality Mr. Marin Kirov, Deputy Mayor of Kameno Municipality Mr. Ventsislav Tsenov, Deputy Mayor of Karnobat Municipality Ms. Stefka Ivanova, and Deputy Mayor of Ruen Municipality Ms. Hatidze Ferad. The regional governor of Burgas Province, Vladimir Krumov, also supported Burgas’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture.
The potential of each municipality to contribute to the initiative’s program with its cultural events, historical heritage, and contemporary creative content was discussed. A network of festivals and events is planned to engage both local communities and international audiences. The towns and villages of Burgas Province will make their mark on the European cultural scene through traditions, contemporary art, and innovation.
The 13 municipalities and the provincial governor Vladimir Krumov sent a message about Southeast Bulgaria as a driver of cultural and economic development. “I am convinced that if we work together, if we plan strategically, if we involve citizens, cultural institutions, businesses, and young people, we can not only win this title—we can fill it with meaning and content that will remain long after 2032,” commented the mayor of Burgas, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov.
