Burgas welcomed prominent contemporary artists from Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, France and Bulgaria during the WATER 2025 festival.

3D mapping ‘The Sustainability of Nature’ by Adistu & Particules; a visual performance by the French collective Scenocosme; and a symphony concert by Orchestra Lumina, are just  some of events during the festival, which was held from October 12-14 in the so-called ‘Dupkata’ (‘The Hole’) in Burgas.

The WATER 2025 festival marks the symbolic beginning of the upcoming revival of this decades-long abandoned site of the former GUM department store in the city center. As part of the investment program for Burgas’ bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2032, an international architectural competition has been announced to transform ‘The Hole’ into a park area combined with a space for contemporary art and culture.
